Château Teillac is located just outside the small village of Puisseguin Saint-Emilion, in the vicinity of the historic town of Saint-Emilion. This beloved area has a long history that dates back almost 2000 years when the Romans planted vineyards here in the 2nd century AD. The famous Bordeaux region, also known as Le Bordelais, owes its reputation as the main AOC wine region of France to both its rich historical background and its diverse and high-quality terroirs
After the passing of the old Mr. Lejet, there was sadly no one to carry on the legacy. As a result, significant parts of the estate were sold to local farmers, bringing the wine production at Château Teillac to a standstill.
Until 2017, when four friends saw a unique opportunity to start a boutique winery at Château Teillac. The small-scale estate offered them the perfect chance to produce sustainable wines, with a deep love for the environment and a strong respect for the carefully balanced ecosystem that already existed.
In addition to being a winery, Château Teillac also serves as a welcoming venue where guests are received and friends come together. Currently, an investment project is underway to renovate and modernize the country house, winery, and vineyard to meet contemporary standards and expectations.
Château Teillac is located on a limestone plateau called ‘Calcaire à Astéries’ from the Oligocene period. The soils of Château Teillac consist of limestone and vary in depth. Due to the hard limestone rock, the vine roots cannot penetrate deep, limiting them to a small volume of soil for development.
The deepest soils produce the most powerful wines. The different soil types each contribute their own characteristics to the wine blend. As a result, the wines of Château Teillac combine both strength and finesse.
Château Teillac dates back to the second half of the 19th century. This French vineyard, which at its peak covered over 30 hectares, was owned by the Lejet family for a long time. With passion and craftsmanship, they managed the estate, resulting in wines of excellent quality that enjoyed a great reputation both in their own country and abroad.
“In July 2017, Château Teillac was purchased by a group of Dutch friends. This beautiful estate, located on the outskirts of Puisseguin, encompasses 1.6 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards are exclusively planted with Merlot grapes and are situated on an exceptional terroir, namely a limestone plateau. The surroundings of the estate are also rich in biodiversity, with centuries-old trees, shrubs, meadows, and a water pond with a stream.”
